Don't know if anyone here knows their furniture...

We have an art deco sideboard, and haven't got a clue what price to put it up for. If I post some pics, could anyone help?

You serious, David, or just want a late bonfire??!!

I mean, we have a cabinet maker who geniuinely is not sure whether it is worth 20 sovs or maybe more.

Don't want to give it away if it is worth a bit more...

it's knowing whether it is true art-deco from the twenties or just a copy?

can you not e mail a picture to sotherbays or some other specialist auction house ;)

My suggestion would be don't give it away, just take a picture, put it on eBay with a £1 starting price and see what happens. At worst you end up "giving it away" anyway, at best you make a fair bit of wonga!

Art Deco is great and goes well with a lot of current styles... if it is from the period then I would have thought you will get a decent price for it. On ebay you might want to try including the words "Jeeves", "Wooster" and "Wodehouse" in there, anyone who loves the books or the TV series will be tempted by some Art Deco.

Take it along to the antiques roadshow! But take it out of the Skoda before you show it to them... :p

Ooooh, and take a cricket bat along in case that orange Ooompa Loompa shows up and starts saying "Cheap as Chips"!

I thought this thread was going to be about your facial hair Simon!
:D

Thanks for all the help guys!

.......and the Skoda gags, pip & Adam!!........and the chop piccy, MMJ!!!!

As it happens, I sent a piccy (of the furniture, not the Skoda or the meat!!) to an auction house with the simple question

Any value?

And got the equally simple reply, "sorry, virtually worthless."

So now I know.

Anyone want an exceeedingly rare Jeeves & Wooster original PG Wodehouse-comissioned 1929 Art Deco Sideboard?

It's valued at 15K, but I'll let it go for 10K.

If you're interested, ring 09876 543 210 at a cost of £15.00 per minute
