Hi Firstly I hope I've posted in the right place !

Can I use a silicon sheet, such as you can use inside the oven to stop spills on the over floor or even to cook on, as a heatproof splashback at the side of my hob ?

This is for my caravan and I want to protect the wall at the side of the hob and also the cover that goes over the hob - if I have a heatproof 'something' on the cover I can put it down without having to wait for the hob to be completely cool (I have a 7 year old with Down syndrome so hot stuff has to be hidden asap !!).

If this would be suitable what would I stick it up with please ?

Without claiming any particular expertise on these silicone sheets, can I offer the following comments?

Using a sheet at the side of the hob sounds OK; the temperatures it's exposed to will be lower than inside an oven, and only from localised splashes. It should be easy to clean up and may save a bit of work.

Using one of these sheets to cover a (steel?) hob cover may not do any harm but probably won't do much good, because it's not going to be much of an insulator.

I suppose the ideal solution might be to have made an insulated, double-skinned cover, like those fitted to Aga cookers.

Perhaps an improvised way of dealing with the problem would be to have a fire blanket to drape over the closed hob cover as an insulator, perhaps fixing the back edge behind the hob by screwing a batten to the work surface or the wall.

I admire you for doing a tough job, and hope you get some better suggestions from others.
