Hi all,

I have laminate flooring installed in hallway, 12mm thick. Two of the rooms it terminates at still need renovating, and the laminate floor has an exposed MDF type edge at these doorways where it was cut. I want to prevent this exposed flooring from absorbing moisture in case of a spill or if humidity is high during plastering etc.

Will it be ok to smear silicone or sticks like along that edge, or could there be some kind of adverse effect? I do not want to damage the flooring I've had installed. I've tested a clear silicone and sticks like on a spare piece of flooring and noticed it has gone dark underneath as though it is wet. See photo.

Thoughts?

No, dont use silicone etc. Why not show pics of the actual laminate floor?
If you have had previous moisture problems then is the suspended hall floor(?) well ventilated below?
