Everyone who deserve a rise, their pay is frozen, or reduced, I'm on the sick, at £180 a fortnight, it goes up an extra fiver in april.

Lots of people deserve that fiver before me

conscience finally getting the better is it?

Harold Wilson started this trend in the 60's. He announced a wage freeze, then in the next breath, announced a rise in benefits for unemployed/sick people.

Amazing and totally true. ;) ;) ;)

possibly because, theoretically, some benefits are supposed to be the minimum that you can possibly live on without being in rags or starving (or, I suppose, having to cut down on fags)

so when inflation has eroded your benefits below the minimum standard over the past year, an inflation-reflecting adjustment is supposed to bring you back up to poverty level.

BTW it is extremely unlikely that Cameroon decide to give this increase as an act of generosity. It is much more likely that it is an automatic adjustment calculated and applied by some long-standing legal formula to index benefits and pensions to some crafty measure of inflation. Politicians like these formulae because it enables them to pretend they are not responsible for annual increases in benefits.

You will probably find that MPs pay is also increased by some formula, though it is probably a more generous one than is used for pensioners.

DLA is being withdrawn, so your £5 increase, is in fact a £200 decrease....if that's possible...

You break the upper limit of what to claim, and have other rights withdrawn. I've talked to my MP about this. As my brother is disabled, and he clarified this.

As will be seen in the budget next week...give to some, take from many.

As ministers haven't finalised this, you ought to be writing to your MP. But motions suggest you will lose your DLA. TBH they don't know what they are doing.
