Sim only deals?

After many years being on contract, I have decided that the plans are too long and not value for money. So I have purchased new handset and going sim only.
Just wondered, which if any? Sim deals are recommended. I have seen freedom pop other 4G coverage at quite a reasonable price. But I no knowledge of them or know of anyone that uses them.
So basically after some recommendations, generally the handset will be used as a phone! Not a music or video aid. So calls, text, emails and some occasional use of the internet.

This list is pretty handy is you're planning to go with a less well known provider, to see what network you're really on, especially if you know from experience which networks have good/bad signal in your area.
