Morning all.

I have a single type 22 radiator in my living room. It’s 1000x500 and had a trv and lock shield fitted.

This radiator is the only one in my house to cause me issues. It never gets as hot as the other radiators downstairs. I would possibly say it’s the furthest from the boiler and or pipe work so could be the last one on the system.

I have already went around and nipped down all the lock shields on the other 11 radiators and opened them up a fraction. But fully opened the living room one to see if this makes a difference.

My last thing I wanted to check is what side the trv is on. I know they can be placed on the flow or return. Currently mine is on the left side (the same as every other rad in the house). But the issue is the lock shield valve / metal fitting all get hot like it should. But the trv valve/ nut side stay cold/Luke warm.

Lastly the radiator has been fully drained and cleaned (nothing built up) and reblead. But it still fails to get warm. It does have a cold spot on the bottom middle on the outer panel

could it be swapping the trv side might work.or am I better to fit two lock shields and let it fully flow?

Thanks in advance.
Mike.

Try removing the trv head, checking the pin.

Try turning off every other trv, and see if it gets hot, if it does it’s balancing issue, if it doesn’t possible restriction.

Also make sure your room thermostat isn’t installed above it (seen this a few times).

I dont think all TRV's are bi directional, had this a few years back myself. Modern ones seem to be, but the older ones didn't seem to have this functionality. Has it ever worked properly in this arrangement?

Well the trv was swapped out as the Orginal one was sticking. It’s got two arrows on it indicating the direction the same as all the others in the house (one arrow points toward the road and the other points down toward the floor/pipe return)

The pump is the same one we have always had and it’s running on the 2nd speed. Moving this to 3rd speed does not make a difference.

All other rads in the house are fine and get plenty hot. It’s just this one single rad.

I will try the method of shutting all lock shields and leaving this one open full and report back.

No, please close all trv’s, not lockshields.

Chris. I have done what you said. And when I done this the radiator heated up. And got warm. This was fairly quick maybe 5/10 mini of being on. I had the lock shield open fully.

So I went around and opened all the other upstairs radiators by 1/4 turn and then done the same to the downstairs but gave them 1/2 turn.

Left it another 20-30 minutes and went back and adjusted 2 upstairs radiators to another 1/2 turn and one radiator downstairs another 1/4 turn.

Appears to be ok just now but will
Monitor over the next few days as the house is warm already

I do have a gas engineer booked to come out to service my boiler in the next few days. So will get him to check the pump flow and size as well.

Thanks all

Mike.
