I live in a house built in 1989 and wish to have the Artex on the Kitchen Ceiling skimmed over. The Ceiling is good condition and measures 7 feet by 12 feet (approx 2.1 meters X 3.6 meters. Any idea what the going rate for the job would be ? Light fittings and obstructions would be removed before hand.

About £300-£500, but you might find the plasterer is reluctant to skim over artex and wants to over board it instead (I’d normally do that, easier to skim and less risk). In which case double the cost ish

In the case of your ceiling, and my answer, you can make it about £100 an hour. Irrelevant question tho as they’re not an hourly rate kind of trade.

From a cold start we'd probably charge £300-ish. If it was bolted on to part of a larger job it could be as little as £100.

Plasterers will assess the depth and condition of the Artex and decide if it needs a bonding coat prior to skimming. It will all need scraping too. We'd likely overboard these days. Are you having any electrics (lighting) done? Are there any wall cabinets close to the ceiling?
