Hi. I'm wanting to reduce the width of a cubby hole door. I attach a picture. I think it best to add a door post and leave the old one in situ on the left hand side.

The area in red is the new skim of plaster. Note that I will have to lay the thin layer of plaster on top of some elements of the wood door frame, which sits about 1 or 2mm below the surface of the wall plaster.

Will I have a problem with the plaster over the wood areas? Do I need to do something to ensure the plaster does not fall away from the wood areas? Thanks.

Wood is going have a different material movement than the other elements that you have skimmed to.
So there is every chance, that at some stage cracks are going to appear.
Is there no way that the frame can be removed or recessed enough to overlap plasterboard?

Hello,
Your new door will need a frame .
Take the old one out and shorten its head.
Otherwise do as PrenticeBoyofDerry suggests .
