Hi there. I am a newbie DIY-er and I decided to change my plaster boards. My plasterer made the walls absolutely perfect, but later on I decided to change the skirting boards myself.

It was really hard to remove the old skirting boards and there is a serious damage to the wall.
Please, see the pictures attached.

I will re-plaster them myself, but do you think this product will do the job

or shall I buy something different?

Maybe No Nonsense Ready Mixed Plaster or similar?

Do I need to use cement or gypsum before the plaster?

Any advise would be great.
Thanks in advance for all the answers.

Chris

That's perfectly normal when removing skirting. Fit your new skirting then fill and sand the damaged areas.

Would you seal the damage behind the skirting? Mine looking similar....

The plaster does not have to go down to the floor.

If the plaster is a convenient depth, screw wooden batten to the wall level with the desired top of the skirting.

With the batten flush with desired finished plaster surface (you may need spacers or washers under some of the fixing screws)

Repair the plaster down to the batten (this is fairly easy)

Put another batten around 25mm above floor level.

Use small screws to fix the skirting to the batten.

the bottom needs filling out with bonding coat plaster. yes you can fill down to the floor if it makes it easier.
after...as suggested get a wider skirting or pin your new skirting on and fill down to it with easifill or toupret filler.
