Slate roof - Battens (laths)

Could anyone tell me what distance there should be between the battens for affixing the tile hangers / hooks to?
I presume this should be the length of the tile less the overlap to the next tile down - that leads to my next question - How much overlap should there be?

A lot depend on the angle of the roof, there should be a recommendation from the manufacter tiles company data sheet which will tell you or ring up any roofing merchant for a advice.

The majority of modern concrete tiles have an overlap of 3 - 4 inches but as mentioned it depends on the pitch and the tile.
