Hi, I plan to remove a freestanding modern slipper bath off a totally tiled floor in a ground floor bathroom and replace it with a low profile slate shower tray into a corner. We really do not want to have to replace or retile the bathroom floor if at all possible. I understand that the tray would have to be set onto a thin concrete bed, which would ideally be directly onto the existing (solid / firm) tiles. The waste isn’t a problem as I will remove any necessary tiles at the third wall to set the trap/pipework. This area will then be covered by a new stud wall at tray end. I plan to install an access panel into this as necessary.
Has anyone any experience of bedding a slate tray onto tiles or doing something similar and could offer any relevant advice pls? Thanks in advance

Nope, wouldn't ever do it. Could never guarantee that the tiles wouldn't ever move and if they did then so could the shower. I presume, judging by the description that this may be on a wooden sub floor? That would increase the case to remove the tiles.

I would look to mask and cut the tiles to the footprint needed by the tray and then set the tray into that space. Even then you need to ensure that the subfloor is solid and with the minimum of deflection and that may require the floor to be lifted and joists checked etc.

Honestly not worth shortcutting the process.
