Plastic doors generally, and these ones too, have an awful high threshold which is a trip hazard and dirt trap.

The idea of these doors to open up fully and have one 'continuous' inside and outside space, is abruptly broken by this monstrous cill threshold poking out of the floor

They do a low cill threshold but this is for inward opening doors only.

Also after reading their comments on aluminum door systems - which is totally wrong and misleading, then I would not believe anything from this company.

In fact, a modern aluminum system is better in all ways, and additionally, the doors themselves are less obtrusive, so there is more glass and less of those massively thick UPVc door stiles blocking the view.

And plastic doors/windows do not have the long life often claimed

do you think an aluminium system will fit in with a house with white sash windows?

The doors do not have to match or fit in with existing frames etc.

The folding door systems are completely different to any existing windows or doors and so possibly the only requirement is that they are a match in colour

Its also common for these doors to be specified to integrate with a new extension and so can be different in colour to existing frames, and they still don't look out of place.

The possible only downside is that they may be more expensive, so this has to be weighed up with the benefits.

Just make sure you get prices from many manufacturers of the chosen types, and haggle them down

thanks for advice woody. do you think they will move on their set prices much?

we had pvc windows so we thought we had to choose pvc doors then, I'm relieved to say, we discovered aluminium bifolds.

the difference between the two is incredible. the pvc ones had wide frames around the glass, a trippably high cill/thresh-hold and felt a bit wobbly when closing - the aluminium door beat pvc in all areas except price - and with the better quality pvc, that wasn't a big difference.

aluminium bifolds looked better, felt better, there was nothing to trip over and the doors are far enough from the old pvc window frames that you don't realise they are different (about 2 or 3 feet).

I can't believe anyone would not go for aluminium over pvc!
