I have a side entry ball cock and valve in an upstairs loo. The water is supplied from the cold water tank in loft. It is very slow filling. Is there a better type of valve that might increase the rate of fill please? The present valve is a conventional copper one.

Check the orifice in the float valve (ball cock in old english). This will probably be white plastic, which is for high pressure water supply. Change this for a red, low pressure one and your cistern will fill much more quickly.

Surprisingly often the whole little funnel thing is full of scale.

Thanks for advice.
The present ball cock valve was :D a high pressure one and was restricting the flow. Solved for a couple of quid. Thanks
