Sludge removers

I want to get the sludge out of a 1970's system, draining a bit out, cleaning the header tank, adding the chemical and leaving it in for a month seems the way to go. But which product is the most effective?

Difficult to give a definitive answer without knowing degree of corrosion involved, but Fernox "F3 Cleaner" or Sentinel "X400" are both reliable products.

You might want to consider installing a Magnaclean TwinTech to filter out the crud as it becomes loosened by the cleanser.
