We are considering replacing our existing boiler after. We have come to the conclusion that the present position is the most suitable for us and our engineer is suggesting a Valliant boiler as it has a stainless steel heat exchanger and we are in a hard water area. The only problem is that it is much larger than our present one and will block a good amount of worktop space (in a small kitchen).

Can anyone recommend a smaller combination boiler which is reasonably reliable? The present one is height640mm, d280mm, width440mm. We would be willing to add a combination of another 800mm to the height/depth.

Our existing boiler is an Ideal Response 100. It was a good boiler during the first nine years, but the last year it has broken down three times and the heat exchanger is on it's last legs!

Not often you hear a Response descibed as good tbh. Get a Vaillant ecotec plus 831 or a glow worm ultracom 30 cxi. ;)

Have a look at the Broag-Remeha Avantaplus 28c. It comes with a five year warranty (Vaillant is two years). It is also smaller (670H x 400W x 300D) and cheaper (£700 as against over £1000).

If overall size is the issue then I believe Ideal have a small combi, as do W-B in the Junior. Ariston Microgenus had a small case too.

It may be a matter of going the the makers web sites and noting sizes. Not difficult.

Anyone who fits an Ideal combi needs their head testing, but then that info is not available on the manufacturers web site is it Dr D?

Ideal are crap. But if size is what matters, and they are the smallest then it is take your choice time.

Thanks for all your comments so far. I will look into these, but any more still welcome. BigBurner - you mentioned Ideal do a small combi, do you know if it's any more reliable that our present Ideal Response? We've had nine good years out of ours, only recently experiencing problems, but I know they get slated.
