Hello,

I had a survey last year to see if I could have cavity wall insulation, the chap said my cavity was not wide enough. Is there another product that will work in smaller cavities? I know the back wall will be different and my extension will also be a different size.

Thanks in advance.

In my opinion a cavity will start at +40mm. Anything less and you are in the realms of a gap that can easily be bridged or completely filled with mortar snots alone.

A lazy brickie can leave enough squeeze-out (uncleared mortar that is left draping after laying a brick) to completely fill a small cavity especially if he does it with both leaves of masonry.

Hi

Leave your cavity alone, it was put there for a reason, and if you go filling it up with any insulation material you could get serious damp problems especially as you have a narrow cavity. Check out the discussion topics on this forum, you will find plenty to do with damp problems because the parties concerned put in cavity insulation.

You would be better off lining the internal face of the external facing walls with something like celotex PL3000, or if money is a concern you may be able to buy a similar product second hand.
Thickness of insulation will also depend on how much room you can afford to lose from the affected rooms.
