We are getting some whiffy smells coming from the base of our upstairs toilet and we really need to sort this out - but I am lost as to where to start.
The toilet pipe is set about 3 inches above the tiled floor of the bathroom (house is 45 years old and has original plumbing one thinks). The tiling around this pipe has been poorly done and there are some small gaps around where the tiles and the pipe meets (large enough to drop a pound coin down sideway in places). What I am struggling on is should I just seal these gaps to stop the smells coming up or does this sound like I have problems down the waste pipe somewhere or in the air vent?? The smells do seem to come on during warmer weather or when the radiator is on.
thanks in advance for any advice.
