My smoke alarm has developed an annoying pip....every few minutes it goes pip.

I wondered if it was the battery....i twisted the lid off to find it was electric only. I turned the breaker off at the fuse box and the alarm still pips...im presuming there is a permanent live feed to a smoke alarm?

The alarm hasnt gone off recently. Only activations is to test it...which still doesnt stop the pipping noise...

Any ideas as to how to stop the annoying pip?

Thanks

The smoke detector will have either a battery back up or a capacitor back up. Turn the mains off to the smoke detectors .When you removed the detector there will be a plug with three wires, unplug this. then look on the back of the detector there might be a little flap held with a screw, if so the battery will be under this flap (usually a 9v alkaline is best to use) If there is no battery then the capacitor will be failing and the detector will need replacing. These detectors usually have a life span of approx 9 to 10 years.

Hope this helps

It may be a built in lithium battery which is on its way out. If so you may have to replace the detector as some only have a battery life of 10 years.

Every smoke is different, but if you have a decent make fitted, and assuming it is mains/battery backed, you will not need to remove it from the ceiling to replace the battery.

Def sounds like its a mains alarm with bult in lithium battery back up. Time to replace the whole unit by the sounds of it.

Is it similar this one?
