Hi Lads, i have just finished rewiring a 3 bedroom house and have just completed the test and certification (yes part p b4 u ask!). I have wired the smoke alrm on its own circuit on the non rcd side of the board. just wanted to know does anyone else do this or do you spur off the lighting circuit. The cable run in this house was a nightmare! thanks

Current thinking is that a mains supplied smoke alarm should be on its own supply from the board and if you fit more than one, they should be wired as a ring circuit.
But most installations still spur off the nearest rose as running a new cct for one smoke alarm is impractical.

hey fluke

if your rewiring a house you generally put a smoke detector in the hall and one on the landing at least.
normally the first smoke detector should be wired in 1.5 twin and earth and then 3core and earth to the other smoke detector/s. this should be a radial circuit.
the 3cores are permenant live, neutral, and signal. if one smoke detector activates it will send a signal to the others so they all activate at the same time.
