Smoky residue from new boiler

18 months ago I had a new boiler fitted in my utility room.
I have noticed that there is a slight smoky film on the white ceiling and at the top of the walls. Is this normal, and should I expect some residue especially in a small room.( approx 7ft by 10ft)?

Or the engineer who serviced it at the end of the first year?

if not been serviced get some out to look at it now

The boiler was last serviced in mid March.
Unfortunately I was at work at the time.
The smoky residue could have been there sometime ( but not before boiler was fitted).
