Smooth Earnings

At 74, my sister still takes in ironing to earn a little extra. She only irons shirts and she only irons five a day - three for one guy and two for another. Regardless of what you earn, what would be the most that you would pay someone to iron a shirt for you? :?: :?:

Edit: This is a serious question.

I wouldn't pay anyone a penny to iron a shirt for me - shirts are about the only thing i can iron that look better when i've finished - trousers - i'd pay someone to iron my trousers!!

it would depend on the quantity involved.

But as a ballpark, £1 per shirt? A good ironer could probably iron 20 shirts an hour.

Guys I work with pay a lady here £2.50 per shirt but that's with collection and return

I only have my court/wedding/christening/funeral shirt, and its always hidden by a suit when I wear it, so no ironing !!!!!!!

But more to the point, I know of a few ladies who started up a domestic cleaning service(hoovering and dusting), they now have more work than they can cope with, and thats at £17.50 an hour !!. One of the girls husbands is about to give up his job as a mechanic to join them, (he worked for a large garage on low pay). They have a full week every week, and at present are planning how to expand locally.
Good Luck to 'em I say.
Some ladies I know consider 'doing the washing' as a job, however I still say it's a matter of filling it with clothes, powder and smelly stuff then pushing buttons. ;)

If someone offered me a £ to iron a shirt I would, it would have one iron shaped scorch mark branded into it and be thrown back at 'em .

Together we'll get through this.....

Never ironed a thing in my life. Dont plan to either.

Hang it up wet and job done.

When I first got married and we were both working full time I used to don a pair of headphones on a Sunday night and spend about 2 to 3 hours ironing while the missus got the rest of the house up to scratch. Lose myself in my music and I'll do anything.
Just going to work out now how much she owes me for all those hours I put in!

I'm not trained in the use of an iron yet, not been on the course. so I'm not going to even try to turn it on. Elf & safety and all that.

Just for your info bolo. There's a few of them doing it professionally round my way (ironing). The going rate for a shirt ironed is 75p.

My sister charges £7.50 per shirt and they are delivered and picked up from her house! As I said she only irons for two people but she has a waiting list of three.
I went to a funeral this week and paid less than a fiver for a shirt to wear at it.

There is a shirt fairy at our house ..... the shirts just appear washed and ironed in the wardrobe - amazing

Wish I had a shirt fairy. As a house husband, I do all of the ironing.

Due to health reasons (which I hope to God are going to improve), it's what I'm having to do at the minute bolo. Cannot say I enjoy it. I am struggling with the whole not being the 'Bread Winner' thing more though!

You sure she's just ironing shirts bolo?

Hi Blas, if you have read any of my more serious posts over the past few months, you will appreciate that I too have had health concerns over the past year or two. However, yesterday I got the all clear even though my consultant stated in a letter to my doc that he was surprised that no malignancy was found in bladder biopsies and scans. I dont give a hoot if he is surprised or not because at the moment they cant find cancer ( I have blood in my urine) evidence. I sincerely hope that things turn well for you whatever the problem/s.

At 74 what else could she do but iron?

Hey nice one mate! And nice to hear good news for a change. I'm quite chuffed here for ya! Strange coz we don't really know each other.

I'll be fine mate.

As for your sis, she just seems to be a popular lass....
