Smooth plaster line around door frame??

So, probably quite a simple question - in my parents' house, the plastering around the doors covers the corner where the frame meets the wall and leaves a neat line about 2-3mm from the frame edge (please see attached pic).
I have tried it in my flat using masking tape, plaster and a standard sanding-spatula but it doesn't look very good...
How is this achieved?! Thanks in advance!

Decorators Caulk.
A type of flexible mastic.
Applied from a tube using a gun and smoothed with a tool or slightly wet finger. The better stuff overpaints well.

Oh brilliant - thanks! I guess the straight line is created using masking tape?

Skill and/or practice.

Tape will be more likely to leave a mark or ridge. But you can experiment.

The problem with caulk is that is shrinks back.

Presented with a door architrave that almost butts up to a wall. I would use a filler such as Toupret Tx110 to fill up to the architrave. Sand it and then prime it.

I would then apply a soft filler such as Toupret Redlite where the architrave meets the wall. The reason being that it is so soft that you can use a much finer grade of sandpaper to sand it back, and hopefully, not end up cutting in through the TX110.

If the gap is only a couple of mm, yeah, use caulk. My go to is Everbuild 125.

Hey all! Thanks so much for the help. Have just finished the final doorframe and it all looks brilliant! :)
