Smoothing a cement repair on concrete floor

Today I have repaired a couple of shallow holes in a concrete floor in preparation for new cushion flooring.

I used a rapid setting mortar mix and managed to get a fairly smooth result. I then left the repair for an hour until semi-firm then got a good finish by smoothing with a wet trowel.

Just wondering if I am able to sand this the repairs tomorrow with sand paper to get a really smooth finish?

You can't sand mortar, it's too hard.
