Hello everyone, and thankyou in advance for any replies :D
OK i've constructed a new garage/extension and my original plan was to felt the roof.

I've been reading around and it seems alot of people have had problems with felt leaking or getting damaged in some way. I carried on with the plan though and bought the best felt I could afford thinking it might last longer, but i've had no practice at it before and no-one I know can do it and it went quite horribly wrong  so It was removed.

Unfotunately i'm on a very tight budget as we've had to spend more on other parts of the building than we expected so I can't pay anyone professional to do it for me. But i've been looking at EPDM roofing and I think I might be able to do a better job with that than the felt. But could anyone explain to me what the difference is between roofing EPDM and pond lining EPDM. The pond liner is significantly cheaper and seems to have the same guarantees and be from the same manufacturer as the roof liner just loads cheaper?

The best option (I think) i've seen so far is the liquid roof seal and liquid rubber that you paint on. I'd just need to fill in any gaps or holes with roof mastic, seal the edges and guttering with flashing tape and then paint over the wood with this stuff. It says it has the same length guarantee as the EPDM sheets but I really can't find any real world information about it, peoples experiences with it and such like.

The roof I have is approximately 30m/sq although in one corner it joins around a sloped roof shed. The roof is new wpb plywood and i have a maximum budget of £500. If anyone could tell me more about my options above or recommend any alternatives I would be very grateful.
Thanks again
Dan

it is a flat roof, although water should not pool on it as it has a good incline for water to run off.

It might not look as if it will pool now but timber with expand and contract thus is a year or so it will pool.
Do not paint timber with anything.
It requires Lead at best or Good quality Felt at worst.
You can get fibreglass flat roofs these days. I personally would not use until they have been around for 20 years or so. Thus being tested.
Water is not the problem for flat roofs. Sunlight is.
I would say that I am no flat roof specialist, I only work on pitched roofs, or Flat roofed bays.
I have done many a successful flat roof repair though.
If I am reroofing flat roofed bays I will not do the job unless I can reroof in lead.
Your unsuccessful Felt job was probably due to not hot pitching the felt to the roof.

In my opinion, the best option is to apply bitumen based membranes, by torch applied application. With lead abutment flashings 150mm above finished roof level.

They are robust and last years if applied properly.
