Can you build ontop of a soak away?

If not how easy are they to move?

No defiantly not; but you can extend the existing pipe work under the building to a new soak away which has to be at least 5m from the building. Depending on how old the current system is it may be easier to scrap it & start again, going off in a different direction to avoid pipes under the new build; this is what I ended up doing as the old drain was in clay pipe & in rather poor condition.

They are not difficult to make, just back breaking work digging the trench (minimum 300 deep I think) & the hole; they are also supposed to be sized according to the amount of water going to them (based on the roof area). I’m not sure if they also have to be inspected by BC as foul drains do.

Building Control should inspect it. If you've got a project on the go it shouldn't be to difficult - just dig a big hole (get it inspected) then fill it up with clean hardcore!

But keep it away from where you are likely to park vehicles & make sure you cap it off with a permeable membrane - something that will let water through but keep the soil out, otherwise it will clog up after a while; also make sure you have at least 400 mm of soil over the membrane if it's in a grass area otherwise you will always have a brown bit of grass there in the height of summer.

Basically I am looking to put a fence up to stop my pervy neighbour peering out his window at me.

The ground above the soakaway is already concrete, I saw a post holder that seemed to be screwed and glued into concrete on a program the other day - I think that might be the easiest way to go.

Anyone know what they are called or where I can get them from?
