Hi, I've just had new guttering and drainpipes installed. However, I need to put a soakaway in the front garden for one of the downpipes.

My question is: what connections do I need to buy to connect to the downpipe and what pipe is required for the underground channel? How far away from the property should the soakaway be placed and what is used withing the soakaway for best results?

Thanks for any help - need to get this sorted asap with the weather deteriorating now!!!

When i did mine last year i was told 2 different distances from edge of building. 3m and 5m
I used the orange underground stuff.
My soakaway was 1 cubic metre.
Bottom half was filled with half broken bricks etc, then put some tiles on top of that, then the last 18in was filled with soil on top of a semi-permeable membrane (to stop soil dropping down and clogging).
No doubt someone will tell you different but mine was all advised and approved by the building inspector.

Hope it helps.

IIRC soakaways should be 5 Metres away from any buildings or roads, and 2.5 Metres from any boundaries.... Could be a bit awkward if your front garden is less than 10 Metres deep or 5 Metres wide...
