I want to do away with the ceiling light in two rooms and have low level lighting (table lamps) controlled by the switch by the door.

Can anyone comment on what sockets are acceptable on a lighting circuit? 2A round-pin would seem OK to me: shuttered types are available now.

Dave.

5-amp round-pin is more usual. The circuit will (probably) be fused at 6A.

BTW if you take away all connections in the ceiling you will be making life very difficult for the next change to ceiling lamps.

Good points John, thanks. I'll leave the wiring in place for the ceiling lights and make a note of where they were.

could you leave a ceiling rose in place? just a descreet round box with a flex hole. Ready for connection in future . . .
