Soffit material

I'm looking to improve the ducting for my bathroom extractor fan (in-line fan in loft), and the best option would appear to be through the soffit.

Soffits are uPVC clad but original boards are there. The house was built 1973 -- what would the best guess be as to its material. I've attached a photo from inside the soffit cavity, where a cutout in the original material is clearly visible with the uPVC underneath. My concern is whether it might contain asbestos and whether additional precautions might therefore be needed in order to vent through it.

If it's '73 it probably will still be asbestos.

Use a tile vent or go through a gable wall if available if you're not happy
