Hi

I want to treat my kitchen to some soft close functionality. The kitchen furniture is oldish but solid wood and I don't want to change it.

Are the pistons (blumotion?) sold on ebay any good? They seem like they would be easy to fit but do they do a quality job?

Also on ebay are some soft close hinges? These seem more expensive (and harder to fit to) but do they give a better result?

Any response much appreciated,

cheers

Chris.

You can get these at B&Q for about a pound each (bags of 6 I think) and you can try them for yourself.

Blum aren't the only people who make soft close stuff, two other big trade suppliers are Grass and Salice (which is what B&Q sell), although Hettich are probabliy in the game as well. I'd avoid the soft close hinges and go for the surface-moub=nt cylinders on a retro fit unless you are certain that your doors and carcasses are up to having new hinges and base plates screwed on (MFC carcasses in particular become more brittle with age) and you're happy about having to realign the doors - which can be a real time waster.
