Soil bed near house

Hi
How near can you make a soil bed to the back of a house? Can it damage the foundations by letting water in?
Is it ok to put soil beds in the back yard of a terraced house?

basically, yes no problem to have soil beds butting up to a house - but only on condition that the soil level is not going to cause damp problems.
why not post a pic of the proposed area ie. the bottom of the rear elevation?

The whole of the earth lets water in! Buildings tend to stay up.

It's basically a victorian type terrace house with small yard. I'm not planning to have it right up against the house but about a foot or so away as there is the drain and soil/ water pipes right at the bottom of the rear elevation - thanks.
