You can use a fitting which is a thick black rubber sleeve with a stainless jubilee type clip round each end. Name escapes me. They squash further than looks likely! Use em for lead, too.
Or the more obvious McAlpine type compression fitting. Expect to have to remove the inner sleeve, which normally goes inside the pipe. Other make like Midland Stom don't have the sleeve to cut out. Hunter too I think. Maybe even Wickes!
