Soil STacks- New toilet installation

Hi All,

I am looking into installing a new toilet into a room- where there currently isn't one. i'm just after some general advice, how can I locate where the nearest soil stack is, and how can I obtain what size the stack is? Also, a friend of mine had said that the stacks might be 'in local isolation', in an e-mail to me, but he is on holiday now- and I don't know what this means!

Any advice would be really helpful!

look where it terminated out of the roof.
internal it will be behind false paneling in the bathroom etc.

installing a new toilet into a new room will come under building regs.
