Solar system to scale...

i wanted to make a scale model of the solar system for my kids.... using a space hopper for the sun and tennis balls etc and i have quite a long driveway to set it out.......boy did i misjudge the scale :LOL:

Sun = spacehopper 60cm diameter
Mercury 2mm dia; 30 metres away (off my drive already :eek: )
Venus 5mm dia; 47 m away
Earth 5.5mm dia; 65 m away
Mars 3mm dia; 107 m away (i'm homesick just saying it :mrgreen: )
Jupiter 61.5mm dia; 352 m away
Saturn 51.7mm dia; 653 m away
Uranus 20mm dia; 1296 m away
Neptune 21mm dia; 1965 m away

(and before you ask, Patrick Moore has downgraded Pluto from a planet to a lump of ice)

And i know !! i should get out more :rolleyes:

have you finished it yet? the bloke in cairo wants to know if you can take neptune.......sorry the golf ball off of his drive? :LOL:

I tried this a few weeks ago but my scale model was the universe,
i used maltesers has stars and planets and my gob for the black hole.
 
Nice pics Tim but what gets me they say there is a black hole in there and even light cant escape but if you look in the centre in the pics its white
i think they should be called white holes, no such thing as a black hole
just another thing they can blame the weather on.

I was watching [email protected]. the other day. Those solar flares that leap out from the surface of the sun are rather large.

Talking of pictures, can anyone find a credible picture of the sun taken from the surface of the moon :?:
