i;m going to lay solid oak, on top of pine floor boards. I want to lay same way as the pine is running. ie cross wise not length ways. Any advice welcome. Take up existing pine then straight onto joists, save taking skirting boards off? First attempt at this, i'm ok DIY have the tool's to. THX anyone helping with this. Brian

That's an option, as long as you boards are at least 18mm tick and connect with at least 3 joists.
Or install plywood or hardboard first (depending on evenness of existing pine boards) and then install new boards floating on foam underlayment (without DPM).
If you don't want to take up your skirting boards, use flat solid Oak beading to cover expansion gap (beading is pinned on wood floor)
