Hello
I’d like some advice please on a solid woode kitchen island worktop that I’d like to sand and oil. I had it installed about 12 months ago and it was oiled and sanded when it was fitted but feel it’s time to redo it.
I have a square plate orbital sander and a tin of osmo oil. I tried to sand one corner of it but the sander seemed to start to scratch it if that makes sense so I stopped. I was using p80 grit paper. Any advice appreciated
Thanks

80 grit is far too coarse for the job if its in good condition and just needs maintenance, 240 grit should do.

Thanks Foxhole. I thought it maybe a bit heavy duty. So persevere with the sander? Any advice on the application of the oil?

Grits go the other way - P80 is coarser than P240. The number refers to the number of wires per inch in the screemn, hence the higher the screen, the smaller the particle

Use a non-abrasive, lint-free, undyed cloth to apply the oil. Only do a small area at a time, rubbing on then buffing off as you go.
