Hi,

I am new to the forum and could do with some advice please.

I am redoing my bathroom, and on one wall the plaster came off completley (old house). I have been advised to brush this down (done this) and size ? it, for this I used a mixture of PVA glue and water (about 4/1).

I have been told I can dry line this wall (dot and dab), and then skim it and then tile it (the wall will have a bath against it and i hope to install a power shower).

Is this a good plan? - I am working under a very tight budget - as the bathroom held a few surprises for me - (plaster/lead pipes ect).

If some one could advise me please, It would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Ian

You can dry line the wall. No need to plaster before tiling, plasterboard is a better substrate to tile upon than skimmed plasterboard.
You would be well advised to buy a tanking kit to waterproof your wet area

Don’t know about well advised it’s ESSENTIAL if you want your new bathroom, bath surround & tiling to last; & use moisture resistant plasterboard not ordinary wall board, the cost difference is minimal.

Before starting, please read the tiling sticky & the tiling archive posts if you want to avoid expensive mistakes! ;)

Hi Richard
perhaps wording did not express properly....
I should have said essential

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

This tanking product you mention, what is it? and how easy is it to apply? Is it something I paint on?

Sorry for the daft questions, but this is my first venture into this.

Thank you in advance.

Ian
