You don't have to. You create a production capacity that can supply the demand on an as & when basis, together with the pipelines to distribute it.
We seem to be actively 'managing' to fail in this.
I thought we were ok with gas supply - I thought we sent gas to Europe last year. I read that we produce something like half of our gas ourselves. We didn’t run out last winter, did we?
