I need to improve the sound insulation of a stud wall. For structural reasons the upgrade must be of lightweight construction.
The BBC 'Single Camden' specification seems to offer the way forward. (See: BBC RD 1991/9 BBC Research Department Report The Airborne Sound Insulations of Timber-Framed Partitions).
The construction cross section in words is:
<New Plasterboard>—<Fibre Board>—<Existing Plasterboard>—<Stud Void>—<Existing Plasterboard>—<Fibre Board>—<New Plasterboard>
I have been unable to find a contact for Sundeala to establish the appropriate board to specify. I believe the company went into administration a couple of years ago. Online searches just keeps bringing up pin boards so some company is producing Sundeala boards but who?
Can anyone lighten my darkness?
Thanking you in anticipation.

Thank you for the link. Much appreciated.
I would like to know a little bit more about the range and physical characteristics of the different fibre boards that Sundeala Ltd offers. (Did it come out of Administration? Did another company take over its assets and good will?
Also if there is an alternative supplier of fibre board and if its contact details.
Can any other forum members help provide me answer these questions?
Once again thank you freddiemercurystwin for you input.

It probably ain't the 1991 company though that made the stuff in the BBC report, though.
I expect there are better modern acoustic materials available 30 years on. BBC R&D reside in Manchester nowadays, for what that is worth.
may be worth investigating for leads?

Thanks Rodders for the link.
The original attraction of Sundeala was it was light, cheap, and readily available. At present it would appear only the first of those three points now apply.
As far as I can see the modern 'equivalents' -- typically mass loaded sheets -- are heavy and expensive.
I would really like to know if non-flame retardant Sundeala board is available, its weight, cost, and where I might get hold of some.
Hence I would like a way of contacting whoever currently manufactures the board. Thank you also for the Companies House comment
The search continues.

Dear Freddiemercurys twin thank you for your continued interest in this topic.

The floor in this post-war property is a bit bouncy.

I'm not a structural engineer but I've taken that to be a an indication that the floor is maybe not capable of supporting much more loading. Hence the light(er) weight specification.

For example a piece of 15mm soundbloc plasterboard weighs in at 40kg compared with 15mm ordinary plaster board comes in at 27kg. But of course the mass law means that 15mm soundbloc plasterboard performs acoustically much better than 15mm ordinary plaster board. So the light(er) weight specification is a compromise between sound insolation and overloading the floor.
