Help! My trusty old boiler GC No 4107717) has been condemned because the gas pipe inlet (GC no 364388 Manufacturer's Part no 110143) has surface rust. The part is obsolete. Does anyone know if I could get a used replacement for a qualified gas engineer to fit?

How bad is the surface rust? If it is only that, then condemning the boiler is a bit harsh. That part is fairly substantial and I've never had to replace that particular part. Just seems odd. Perhaps a pic of it?

Surface rust would normally have to be deeper than just the surface to become dangerous.

Sounds like someone who wants to force you to buy a new boiler from them!

Post a picture?

Picture below. It's pretty bad. It rusted when hot water dripped onto it from above. And the people who condemned it didn't do new installations. Back to my original question please. View media item 67825

Yes, I think that's beyond simple "surface rust" !

Having said that it is a thick tube and if cleaned up and painted and measured then I expect that I would be prepared to put it back into service.

You would probably have to wait until somebody advertised an old boiler on Ebay. That could be anywhere in the country and any year.

They have so little value or attraction to anyone that they would usually just be scrapped!

In any case its so old and inefficient that most would just say replace it and save gas + 10%

I bet that would come up as good as new if someone spent a bit of time on it, finished off with some Hammerite.
