Specific Edging/barrier when laying a new patio?

Hi Guys,

I'm planning on taking up a front lawn roughly around 20sqmt.

I'm comfortable with the laying and mixes I need to use. As there is surrounding soil border with plants/flowers I was wanting to know if I need to use a specific type of edging to stop the roots coming into the sub-base/mortar and causing issues later on.
Should I be ok using a standard lawn edging between the soil and paving layers?
