Hi,

I've had a google and can't find anything that answers my question specifically.

I have just moved into a new flat and want to mount my TV. It is 42" and weighs about 9.5kg.

I have a mount (this one here) that can hold up to 50kg in weight (which allows full swivel of the TV).

As for the wall... It's an external wall, and I think it is plasterboard. I would be drilling through the plaster and into what seems to be a vertical concrete beam of some sort (not sure of the correct terminology).

Anyway, I can only drill into the wall about 40mm before I hit the concrete. The screws that came with the mount are 4x 8.8mm diameter with 63mm of depth. This will mean that only 23mm of the screw goes into the concrete.

So my question is this... Will I be safe to install a 9.5kg TV into the wall using only 40mm screws, rather than 63mm screws?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

The screws supplied would be to support the max weight that the bracket is designed for is my guess.
If you have a good fix in the length you say it may well hold the weight. When you fix the bracket using 40mm you can tell if you are getting a firm fix.
If you mount the TV with care, you will know if it will stay there. Can you not use more fixings equally spaced.

You need to drill concrete [sds drill] for a secure fix, from your description you have plasterboard dot and dabbed onto the wall. The plasterboard and adhesive are very weak and should be disregarded when fixing to as they offer little if any purchase.
How did you ascertain you have a concrete beam as I assume you have only drilled it in one small area?

I'm sure the bolts won't be 8.8mm in diameter. If the bolts have 8.8 on the hex it doesn't refer to the size, it refers to the grade and material used in the steel the bolt is made from.
What size is the hex?

Hi folks - just wanted to say thanks for the feedback. I purchased a hammer drill, six 'rigifix' screw kits and a large-base cantilever tv mount. After ruining a few masonry drill bits, I managed to get the mount attached to the dryline wall and it feels rock solid.

That's why I said SDS drill, goes thru concrete like it was butter.
