How old is the machine? If you've had it a good few years (5?) and used it frequently it could be the bearings.

If you rotate the drum by hand you should hear whether it sounds rough. To check it properly, disconnect the belt drive and spin the drum. It should run freely, smoothly and quietly, if not - it's the bearings.

i agree sort of, just spin the drum by hand, leave the belt, it should as mentioned spin "smoothly" if it doesnt itsthe bearings if m/c over 5 get new m/c unless you want to change the bearings your self

Hi All
thanks for help last night did what you suggested and took the belt off and rotated the drum by hand all was fine.
when we put it together and turned it on again it did sound as if it was the motor, by the way the machine is only just 2 years old.
Is it a big job if it is the motor?

no but usually a big price, phone around for a few quotes for one (but i am not so sure it iss the motor, it may be something between the 2 drums

Before lashing out a fortune on a new motor, get the brushes checked. A few years ago I took my (Hotpoint) motor in to exchange for a new unit (at a cost of about £80). The shop I took it to (domestic appliance specialist) took one look at it, pronounced that the brushes needed replacement, and renewed them for about £20 i.e. far cheaper. Fair play to him too - I was prepared to cough up for a new motor with my old one going in exchange, which he could, presumably have sold on good as new at minimal expense. Good to see honest traders still exist.

Hi All
