Hello,

I’m a real novice and would appreciate some advice (no trolling). A plumber repaired a waste pipe for me and sealed the hole with black sealant, but I’ve never seen someone spit on something so much .. it was throughout the sealant and not just to smooth the surface. I know its outdoors, but could this cause mould .. should I remove and reapply it. TBH, he may as well have used gum. Thanks, x

If it’s outside then likely to be ok, but I don’t know why he would use sealant anyway unless a temporary repair. Hope you didn’t pay too much?

He’s a plumber .. of course I paid too much, but I’ve never seen anyone spit on something so much. My pipe is sealed with black sealant

When you mention waste pipe, do you mean the sink waste or the one for the toilet? Usually 110mm.

He should have used solvent weld for the joining the waste pipes. To block a redundant hole, an adaptor is normally used.

Send a picture.

Ooooh!

Yes I got that from the first post. I just don’t know why it was used. I did Plumbing first before becoming a heating/gas engineer and only ever used sealant outside on a waste pipe for a temporary repair until we could come back and do it correctly

Photo .. it’s how they all look on my new build estate.

That’ll be fine. Apologies, you did state why it was used, to fill/seal the hole. When smoothing off I tend to use plain water.

Thank you .. the worry I have is that he spat on it throughout application of it and not just to smooth off .. should I remove it and reapply? As I said, I’ve never seen so much spit it was running off and I was heaving if I’m honest lol

No .. i won’t hire him again. I had an awful time with him .. thanks

The builder has offered to redo it, and I could pick it off I guess :/

Just spray some Dettol on it or something. Just for peace of mind.

If the builder will do it (for free perhaps?) then let them, but I think you’re worried about nothing.
