I have to do the tiles behind my new sink tomorrow..
what's the best way to do the windowcil to upright to get a decent edge?

do i fix the bead to the face first and tile to it? or can i use a bit of batten to get a straight edge to tile to?

If your worktop is level and the window sill is you wouldn't need anything to work to, as long as you cut the tiles all the same length(up to just above the window sill to allow for bead and adhesive for the top) you'll get a straight edge working from the worktop and ascetically all the tiles would be the same. This is better then following the sill because if it isnt level you'll end up with different sized tiles following its edge which doesn't look as nice. If the sill isn't level, choose the highest point to work from cutting all tiles to be suitable for that length, you can then level to these when you put the top tiles and bead on giving you a nice square level sill.
