I need to make a few repairs to some vertical bars on a timber frame using the following method shown in this image

How best and what tool would you use to cut that mitre (indicated by the arrow) bearing in mind that id have to make that cut in situ for the window im working on.
(cant remove the entire frame since it forms part of a conservatory structure)

Id be splicing in the new timber with the use of an epoxy filler like timbabuild so i was thinking to just make the cut using a fine hand saw and any gaps in the final fitment can be filled with the epoxy.

any other suggestions?

A fine back saw (dovetail, tenon) the finer the teeth the better. Maybe use an adjustable bevel gauge to transfer the angle onto the new material.
Secure the new piece if you can with a couple of brass screws.
Best of luck with it Rob - you should get a couple of years out of the repair.
John :)

If you clamp the new length of wood next to the cut away part of the frame you can scribe the cut line to get an accurate angle of cut.

Blup
