Hey up all,

My neighbour is in the process of adding power to his garage. He has all the adequate armoured cable etc, but I was a bit concerned at him being told he could take a spur from his 10mm2 twin and earth cooker socket, and use that spur to go into a junction box, thus supplying electric to his garage. He has added two way fuse box in the garage with RCD included.

The cooker socket is on its own fuse from the mains. I did part apprenticeship, over 20 years ago now, but I always seem to remember the cooker and the shower always had to have individual cabling and fuse at the mains, and under no circumstances could you spur off either of them??

He was told by a friend who owns a lighting shop that he could spur. I say no.

Has it changed and what are the current regs.?

Thanks to all who read..........and answer

This would not be allowed.

Tell your friend to have it carried out correctly and take the cable back to the consumer unit.
