Staining my door - off or on?

Will require staining once fitted since all edges need stain, but you need to remove door to do this.
unless the door has at least the protection of an open porch, it will need to be lightly rubbed down and restained every few years. Consider having it hung on lift-off hinges, as you can do a better job with the door off. If you are not very good at hanging doors, you will find it difficult to get it off and back on to a high standard if you have to unscrew the hinges. I do.
