I've noticed some insulated indirect cylinders coming onto the market, look same design as copper ones but are cheaper. i suppose this must be because the price of copper has been going up, and maybe robot forming and welding of stainless has improved.

Thinking how copper ones can crumple when getting an old immersion out, and the coils sometimes leak, I wonder if the steel ones will be better?

Any experiemce?

Very rare I fit copper open vented cylinders nowadays unless an unusual size... So can't comment directly on the strength.

It is worth noting though that you need different immersion heaters for SS unit.

do you mean different alloy for the element, or is the head different?
