Im having leds put into the skirting board to highlight some of the stairs. What do you guys think about colour changing ones are bit tacky compared with warm white?

If you want your staircase to resemble an alternative Christmas tree.... ;)

Colour changing lights are generally tacky. The only way I imagine you could make it look reasonable is to install a system that will allow you to set the lights to a static colour of your choice. However, that's going to be a lot more expensive than your typical colour changing fittings.

Yes Ive found a kit that scrolls through from slow, medium or fast setting and you can set it to colour of yr choice. Its 50 notes. But thinkin about it the warm white would look better im thinking.

If the colour changing kit can't do white then, personally, I'd choose the warm white fittings. Anything else will be a novelty unless you have a colour scheme that really demands exotic lighting.

It can do cool white but not the warm white unfortunately! One company are saying bubble leds 1w are quite effective but not sure if the bubble looks as good as the flush ones.

Madame would find colour changing stair lights perfectly appropriate for her establishment.

;)

You could use the colours in provide a safety feature, they are all green until someone starts to use the stairs and then the ones at the far end turn red to prevent a head on collision on the stairs in the dimly LED lit stairs.

Any obstructions on the stairs and they all go yellow, serious obstructions and they flash yellow. Blue for slow moving people about to be over taken.

As a decorative gimmick fine.....as stair lighting ? not good. ( that's my opinion )

I remember one guy who had an automation system setup was talking about linking the RGB lights in his house to his alarm. So when the alarm went off the zone that was activated would flash red and the zones inbetween where he was and the burglar would light in white light so he could make his way there.

:p

I'm putting in quite a few RGB lights around my house but it's mainly so i can have like red for lower light levels and white in day. I can't stand lights that have to go through every single colour of the rainbow....JUST because they can. Looks tacky IMO.
