New to this forum & help needed. Done a quick browse to make sure not covering old ground so to speak.

Would like to have stair case skirting board fitted - Do I need to custom make this or does such a product exist that I need to tweak ?

Many thanks.

normally the stair string plus maybe a 10-15mm quadrant after skimming, is all thats required up the stairs.

What I'm after is the shape of wood that fits into the tread and riser - the zig zag for want of a better term. Are these available in diy land or do I make one ?

what is it for concrete/stone steps.
The few times I have fitted these on site I've made them up out of a rip of MDF .I am 100%sure you cannot buy them ready made

Not heard of them because the stairs tread and risers and all difference measurement.

allybongo,I can't quite get the jist of what you mean ,like Isaid I have fixed a dummy string to stone/concrete steps,as you talking about wooden stairs these would normally have a pair of strings already

OK Mr. Splinter I'll try and clarify my question.

My internal hall stairs currently have no skirting board fitted. I would like to fit new skirting. My dilemma is do I need to make the skirting board or is there a product alreay on the market that I can buy, and then adapt to fit my particular size of tread & riser.

Can you post a photo :?:

Does your stairs have string :?:

(the string is like a plank of wood on both side of the stairs holding the treads & risers together)

Thanks for your patience Masona. I have no string as you describe it.
It is a hallway staircase of 10 steps with plaster wall on either side of the staircase. I just want it to look a bit more regular by having skirting board.

my thruppens worth

cutting the whole thing as once would be a nightmare as you have to fit all the stairs at the same time not one at a time

the only way i can see it working isss

ex 3"[2 3/4"]skirting or matching archatrave cut underneath to cover all or most of the curves on top of the noseings then individual components [triangles] cut to fit and numberd on the back
and depending on construction of the stairs glue the components together
if the shape is complicated [wont slide strait in when assembled]
you may need to cut a contiuous slot on each component and use buiscuts to assemble in position
if the stairs are permanently carpeted you could get away with slightly less accuracy

another point to note you cant change direction on a mitre in more than one direction at once
as in you cant come up the stairs and at a corner change the angle coming up the stars and change to a right angle at the same time you need to level off before you reach the corner

perhaps there is a string, its just that the plaster thickness has swallowed up the string profile?
got any pictures?

That's what I was thinking, if so, maybe a timber or plaster moulding like in the picture.
